About

MeToMen is a non-profit organization that seeks to empower every African male teenagers emotionally, physically and socially, as they develop into adult men. Through our mentorship program, teen boys are able to openly speak with grown male role models who have been able to successfully navigate their teenage years, equipping the young boys with the social knowledge they need to succeed.

Our aims is to work mostly with vulnerable young boys likely to grow into broken men because of the lack of proper male role models to guide them, little access to life skill -based education, limited access and exposure to a mentally safe community where they can share and learn how to deal with the critical issues that could define the rest of their adult male life.

Our mission is to bridge the social knowledge and mentorship gap in male teens for a fully developed adulthood. This mission is rooted in our belief that it is easier to mend boys than to repair broken men

How MeToMen Works

SCREEN

We identify and screen interested adolescents who are willing to learn and determined to succeed as well as adult mentors who are caring, competent, and committed to providing mentorship to proteges

upskill

We facilitate quarterly boot camps to build a safe community. Lectures and small group sessions are organized to encourage knowledge sharing by experts, speakers, and experienced mentors. We also train these emerging adolescents on male-centric life skills curriculum unique for their personal development such as emotional communication, growth mindset, and personal responsibility

MATCH

We provide basic mentorship training to our network of screened volunteer mentors and match them to a pool of willing-to-learn teens, based on compatibility metrics for a 3-month mentorship program

SUPPORT

We provide referrals for at-risk teens, who need therapeutic support and those interested in learning specific technical skills, to our partner organization.

Vision Statement

To build a well-rounded African male community where every male adolescent emerges into adulthood through guided mentorship.

Why we exist

Our boys need us. Many are getting lost in the transition from childhood to young adulthood. Many are making the wrong choices, and the long-term consequences are troubling. A recentĀ Esquire article pointed out that boys are “more likely to drop out of school, less likely to go to college, and far more likely to abuse alcohol or go to prison or kill themselves than the girl sitting next to them in class.” Hence the reason why we chose to build them than mend them.
